Mission and Activities of the AVS Recommended Practices Committee
The purpose of the Recommended Practices Committee (RPC) is to provide information that facilitates reliable research and development, and manufacturing in areas of importance to the AVS community. The committee acts as the Society’s representative in areas of standards and procedural development, develops uniform measurement procedures and specifications where needed, and collects and disseminates information on standards and practices to the AVS community.
In addition to development of recommended practices and procedures, RPC is the liaison with national and international standards organizations. The AVS RPC represents the USA (ANSI/ASTM) in the following national/international committees:
- ISO/TC 201: Surface chemical analysis
- ISO/TC 112: Vacuum technology
- ASTM E-42: Committee on Surface Analysis
RPC maintains the only vote for USA on new standards documents proposed in ISO/TC 201 and ISO/TC 112. Additionally, the RPC has drafted many peer-reviewed publications documenting the recommended operation and procedures for various applications that are published in JVST. To join or contribute to the committee, please contact the chair (Jacob_Ricker@avs.org).
